Where Outfitters and Outdoorsmen Connect
Scope of Work
FILLING THE TECHNOLOGY VOID FOR OUTDOOR EXPERIENCES
ROAM is a mobile and web application that gives anglers and hunters the ability to discover guides, charters and outfitters in their immediate vicinity. Using location services and an efficient user experience, ROAM connects the operators with customers in a way that is currently unavailable in the Experiences industry.
WITHOUT A PADDLE
ROAM’s CEO runs multiple service industry and entertainment companies out of Louisiana. An avid angler, he struggled to find a solution to a persistent problem he encountered while traveling. He takes his rod and tackle box with him everywhere he goes, but he can’t find open availability – or any online information – with local fishing charter groups. He reached out to Divining Point to lay the groundwork for a technology solution and go to market marketing strategy.
TRACKING DOWN A SOLUTION
Divining Point engaged the entrepreneur to fully discuss the projected features and functionality of the new application, including the hole in the market compared to other experiences marketplaces. We then did in-depth research and analysis into the entire experiences industry with a closer look at those that catered to outdoor sports like fishing, hunting, and guided hiking. We explored the competition, their brands and marketing strategies, and the apparent lack of user adoption. We also looked at the revenue potential from the growth of outdoor experiences with consumers.
With this knowledge in hand, we focused on a name that summarized the desires of anglers and hunters as they traveled across the country. We knew that the brand must appeal to a wide swath of consumers with very different mindsets, worldviews, and needs.
After a thorough testing process, the name ROAM rose to the top. Outdoorsmen are always looking for that opportunity to roam about the wilderness, engaging with it through a variety of activities… hunting, fishing, rock climbing, hiking, the list is expansive.
ROAM is where outfitters and outdoorsmen connect.
Once the brand name and identity was established, Divining Point designed a style guide that would govern the use of the brand and inform all decision making around marketing. Within the style guide we demonstrated the proper way to use the brand for online, print, and promotional products. We documented the company’s vision and brand values, along with color palette, typeface and logo alignments.
With a brand vision in place, ROAM’s CEO was able to move to the next step of designing the layout of the application, defining overall technology development scope, and seeking out investors to fund the pending go to market strategy.
